This is a video of a 30# spring chinook landing on the Columbia River on May 20, 2012.  My buddy, Brian and I were fishing in a 3 boat hogline, above The Dalles Dam.  I was just finishing wrapping our next set of plugs when this monster takedown occured.  Thank gawd I didn't switch out Brian's k-15 Pickle prior to this hit!  The fish turned out to be a native and was released unharmed to continue its journey upstream.

***Please fast forward through about the first 1:50 of this video, as the camera was not propertly positioned***

High Water Spring Chinook Tactics for the Columbia River

This is a short clip of a high water spring chinook tactic for the Columbia River.  If you're having difficulty catching fish this spring, try this tip.

This is a short clip of a local guy, Ken, fishing on his boat "Lotta Nookie".  We came upon Ken on our way out of the Willamette River, after spring chinook fishing.  Ken evidentally was bored with his day of chinook fishing and decided to fish oversize sturgeon.  This is him landing an oversize in excess of eight feet in length, single-handedly.

Sometimes when the river is high and turbid (Columbia River is both right now), I like to take a second and look back on the year past and remember how good fishing has been to us over the past season or two.  Here are a few hilights... And yep, they're all different fish and separate trips!

Fishing Guide Booking Service

Hi everyone, Wide Open Fishing Adventures books guided fishing trips for anyone wanting to fish anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.  Columbia River and all tributaries, Oregon and Washington coastal rivers and the Pacific Ocean out of various ports in Oregon and Washington.  My nearly 40 years of experience fishing these waters has provided an introduction to most of the guides and charter services in the region and I can tell you, they are not all created equal.  Some are better than others, depending on your tastes.  You may be an executive, looking to entertain clients on a trip; a parent, looking to introduce your child to fishing; a hard-core fisherman or fisherwoman, looking for the right guide and trip to challenge you and test your skills.  Whatever the case may be, I can connect you with the right guide for you!

I'll also be posting video gear reviews, trip recaps, fish handling and preparation tips, etc!  Make sure to check back for those.
